MSDS takes its name from the first letters of the English abbreviation Material Safety Data Sheet. The Turkish meaning is Safety Data Sheet (Güvenlik Bilgi Formu). The Turkish abbreviation is GBF (Güvenlik Bilgi Formu).

It is the name given to the documents containing the dangers and risks of chemical substances, which constitute the most important part of the studies to minimize the Occupational Health and Safety risks that may occur during the use and storage of chemicals and aim to inform the user accurately and adequately.

Safety data sheet (MSDS) is a technical document that provides detailed and full information about the product.

The SDS-MSDS will provide comprehensive information about a substance or mixture for use in regulatory frameworks for chemical control in the workplace.

Employers [and workers] use the SDS-MSDS to obtain information about harm, including environmental damage, and to advise on safety precautions.

The Safety Data Sheet (SDS, formerly MSDS) is a detailed information document consisting of 16 sections, prepared by the manufacturer or importer of a chemical, describing its physical and chemical properties, physical and health hazards, exposure routes, and precautions for safe use. And explains the use of the product, emergency and first aid procedures and control measures.

Often when you contact a shipping line to ship dangerous cargo, one of the questions they will (or should) ask you is whether there is an MSDS for the cargo.

The MSDS contains information about:

*Three basic data of the shipment such as physical and chemical properties, flashing, boiling and melting points,

*Toxicity information,

*Health effects,

*First aid to be applied in case of negative contact,

*Possible reactions,

*Storage conditions,

* Disposal methods,

*Protective equipment to be used by people who come into contact with the material,

* Measures against spread,

It provides guidance on the relevant post and the properties and composition of the item in question.

This is vital for the operations department of any cargo company so they can evaluate the acceptance procedures for loading this cargo on their vehicle/aircraft/ship.

In accordance with Article 5(13) of the Regulation on the Safety Data Sheets of Hazardous Substances and Mixtures, “Safety data sheets (MSDS) are prepared by personnel certified by the authorized institution for the certification of persons related to safety data sheet preparers.”

After 31/12/2022, SDSs (MSDS) will be prepared by chemical assessment experts certified according to KKDIK Regulation.

However, we strongly recommend that you get support from Chemical Evaluation Experts and add your KKDIK(REACH) - Pre-Registration numbers to your MSDS in advance for your updated MSDSs.

The Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) provides information on a wide variety of aspects such as occupational health and safety, transport safety and environmental protection. Because SDSs (MSDS) are usually prepared by a variety of employees rather than by a single person, unwanted gaps and duplications can be unavoidable. As a result, it would be helpful to pass a consistency and logic check of completed Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and (if any) annexes before they are made available to recipients. To ensure that the document is reviewed as a whole, it is recommended that a final review be done by a single competent person rather than by individual individuals.
